We spent today in the Mirak area today since Salpi is starting a test trench there today, and we wanted to be close in case she had any questions. The survey team along with Arsho spent the morning dividing different tasks in this landscape. Arsho spray painted ground control points around the fortress area, and then droned it with 4 flights to include a larger area than he did yesterday to give us larger space to crop the resulting images/maps for publications. While he did this, Alan and I surveyed the west side of the reservoir since the water is extremely low; we walked up to the cluster of cromlechs I recorded in 2014, and noted that the few 'kurgans' I recorded among them at the edge of the burial cluster was in fact collected rock piles that we've been noting in many places the past couple of seasons. So we'll eliminate these bogus kurgans from the GIS and database. No new sites were recorded by Alan or I in this area.
Meanwhile, Karen and Chris surveyed the Kasakh Gorge picking up where Karen and Salpi left off last year south of Mirak. The most interesting find was a burial cluster of cromlechs overlooking the gorge consisting of about 15 burials.
