I began my day ground truthing the gorge at Mirak with Karen. We made our way upstream but the visibility was zero. Waist-high weeds and big boulders. Impossible to find anything. We emerged from the gorge to circumvent an inaccessible portion and located a small artifact scatter in a natural drainage area. Very interesting to find medieval and EB sherds together. Karen said it could be part of a destroyed kurgan but the fact that they were found in a drainage area means they could have been washed far from their original site. We continued through the gorge and emerged again to find a ceramics scatter exposed in a sharp cut that was the western bank of a modern dug out rampart/path. There was an intact base sherd and we collected six bags of large pieces. I'm interested to see the extent to which we can reconstruct this vessel. We continued again through the gorge and emerged a third time to find approximately 15 cromlechs on a large outcropping. The cromlechs were in good shape, some with complete circles and capstones. At least three walls were observed but not recorded.
