Narrative

Today Alan, Karen, and I drove up to Jrarat to do some preliminary investigations of a potential fortress on a hilltop above the village. Immediately upon entering the central fortress area we found some great ceramics scatters, comprised of EB, LB, and possibly EI pottery. There is also clear evidence of cyclopean wall architecture and partially destroyed walls at the top of the hill. There are also at least two small cave-like openings in the outcrops on the western slope, facing the village, that could contain something of interest. Based on the terrific diagnostic sherds (particularly rims and a couple of base sherds) found in the surface scatters, I would have to assume there is a both long and deep history of occupation at this site.

Also, we took a back road to Jrarat and between Tsaghkahovit, Tsilkar, and Lernapar, there are definitely more hill forts or at least some kind of hilltop sites clearly visible from the road we took (which was possibly the bumpiest ride ever). Some terracing was visible from nearly 1km west and architecture was visible as well.
