Today we continued to take down Locus 03 of Mirak Operation 03. Due to the presence of small rocks across the trench, most of this was done with picks. After pedestaling quite a few stones we removed them. Eventually, at about 1.40m down from our datum, we hit a crumbly tuf layer and called in Locus 04. Locus 03 will close once the rest of the trench is cleaned up and taken down to bedrock. We also created our trench expansion west over the inner face of the fortress wall. This expansion was a 2 meter expansion to account for the huge rocks that make up the fortress wall. This expansion, which will likely only include the removal of topsoil is called Locus 05. Tomorrow we plan on finishing up Mirak Operation 03 by reaching bedrock and clearing Locus 05.
