July 14, 2017. There was some rain last night, so we opened the chamber and let it dry for an hour. The guys worked on T05, while I scouted out burials for another excavation. I found what looks like a very rectangular cist and I am hoping it is a different time period and won't take too long. It is E of T05.
Worked all day excavating. There are human and animal bones forming and circle N of the large vessel. There are now 5 vessels total. I am finding sherds all over from a black vessel with some red paint on the outside. When I pick them up the red is vibrant, but it fades with oxygen/sun/drying out. Still the patterns are visible. Ruben said that it could be a very rare and early vessel. KA said he has excavated something like it at Karashamb. Early is exciting!
Difficult excavating. The matrix is just wet and has clay in it, so the bones are getting brushed away. In general the preservation is not great. Exposed bones are turning white with just a little time in the sub and are paper thin when dry. Getting clearer. The bones are either arranged or slipped into this order if they were in a bag or bundle. They are really making a perfect half circle with one bone between the broken vessel and the W-N wall, and two in the E corner.
