While excavating locus 48/ 53 in the northeast corner of the operation we recognized that we had not hit bedrock where and when we anticipated... We were still excavating this odd ashy clay-like matrix. ALSO, under locus 48's floating collapse of stones (immediately north of the locus 22 burial) we also uncovered the presence of a few large flat stones!!!?? These appear to be situated immediately north of the northern wall of locus 22 and locus 27. Given the smallish size of these stones it is impossible to determine their function -- if any. Whatever they are, locus 15 (the north-south terrace wall) continues, interestingly, right up until this point. Nevertheless, my finger's are crossed that I have myself another burial... We are currently excavating this context to further explore this possible feature and understand the soil matrix.
