Our work today focused on the completion of the Mirak excavations, as the survey team arrived to the site first thing this morning with Lilit Ter-Minasyan in order to both finish the excavation work and draw the architecture. We descended slightly further in the western room corner and encountered a thick clayey matrix tight up against the large stone. Ian and I concluded (and Lilit agreed) that the stone was likely carved from the local bedrock stratum, like the one directly NW of the room wall. Both stones look like the may have been simultaneously carpentered to support or frame the lower, likely LB wall.
Lilit drew plans for OP 02 and 03, as well as an architectural section for OP 02. The OP 03 plan, however, only included half of the trench, leaving the enclosure wall for future drawing.
With excavation and drawing complete, we took the final photos for OP 02 and then toured the Aparani Berd excavations with Adam and Ruben, who were visiting all the sites today.
