Narrative

We opened trench 45 on the E side of the site in order to follow the anomaly identified by GPR in this area. We opted for an initial 3x4 m, which may be eventually extended in case of substantial findings. Today we removed part of locus 1 and uncovered an accumulation of stones in the SW corner of the trench. The largest boulders in the trench, which are located respectively in the N and E corners, were already visibile before the excavation and were used as a reference to lay out the E side of the trench. In fact, we were hoping to catch part of a wall (if present). The materials recovered include: bones; obsidian, which is particularly abundant (this typically occurs during the LB at Gegharot); and ceramics. The pottery is mixed, with EB sherds and LB sherds that are probably the result of washed material from the slope. Due to the working schedule, we could not remove locus 1 in its entirety and some of it is left along the W side of the trench.

A small find (a fragment of a ceramic disk, Ar/Ge.T45.01.Co.01) was recovered from the NE corner of the trench.
