I finished washing and coding Ar/An.BC03.T01 locus 20 and 11, Burial 02. To my surprise, I realized that there are 2 individuals, one of which is a subadult. There are two deciduous teeth, a small mandible fragment, and a small unidentified unfused bone. These materials were located both in locus 11 and 20. Suslik/vole bones were also found in locus 11, so it seems possible that the creature moved bones up into locus 11 from the original deposition in locus 20. Adult fragments were also found in locus 11.
I started washing Burial 01, which is going to be a lot of work. The soil is a clay that only comes off with quite a bit of water, but roots and calcite have also done damage, making furrows all over the bones and breaking down the outer surface of the bone. In addition, it does not seem that many epiphyses survived these conditions or were able to be preserved in excavation. (Shujing Wang oversaw this excavation).
