July 4, 2018. The day was taken up with washing the bones fro Ar/An.BC03.T01 locus 16, Burial 01. It is really too bad that the preservation is so horrible. This is an older individual and there is evidence of robust MSMs on the arms. I wish that we had the articular joints to match and figure out how this woman used her body. Still, there is information to record, discuss, and compare with her associated goods and interment.
Cleaning the skull was a challenge. It was compacted and broken, but the clay soil matrix had kept much of it together and in place. So, removing the matrix essentially deconstructed the skull into many small fragments. So frustrating to see the sphenoid bones in anatomical relation only to be completely reduced to small fragments!
