More final cleaning in C7 and C8 today. We also continued to excavate locus 12 of C10, where we uncovered another, more shallow basin and a tethering ring, carved from the same boulder as yesterday's basins. This whole boulder became locus 8. To the south of locus 12, alongside the citadel wall, we encountered another packed clay surface, which extends to the rock with basins. This surface exists at different levels, and is irregularly shaped. It marks the top of locus 13, which we will excavate tomorrow. Today we also proceeded to excavate locus 2. We began to move some rocks which seemed fallen. However, when we encountered more rocks beneath them, we decided to remove the baulk between C8 and C10, to determine the extent of the wall in C10, and how it relates to the aligned rocks in the south quad of C8. The baulk is locus 14. Finally, today I created new loci for the various architectural features in C10. The continuation of WC301 is locus 15; the citadel wall is 16; the nw to se wall is locus 17; the ne to sw wall is 18. Small finds today included carbon samples from locus 12, as well as whetstone, andiron and groundstone.
