Ruben visited today. We discussed the unclear situation with the south wall of WSJ. He recommended that I extend WSJ further south to try and find the wall. This new operation I named WSJb. We removed topsoil (locus 1) and a wash layer (locus 2). By the time we got to the clayish layer of locus 3, we identified a few large stones which might belong to the south wall, but this architectural situation is still unclear. No furthur work was done today in WSJ, which means locus 4 and 7 remain open. In WSC we continued to excavate the clay level of locus 5 (and 6 and 7 - see place forms). This locus extends well below the last course of the western wall, which suggests we may have reached the floor. However, we still have not reached bedrock, so it's still possible that all this clay is melted mudbrick. Locus 5, 6, and 7 are largely sterile, although many sherds of a large vessel were found along the bottom of the west wall. Will try to reach bedrock tomorrow. Maybe also clear the top of the west wall.
