Adam was at Tsagh in the morning. In WSC2 we decided to create two new loci, locus 12 in the space between the NW wall and the parallel line of rocks and locus 13 in the south quadrant where there is a clay surface that meets a medium brown silt. Locus 12 had low material quantities but mostly bone. Much carbon found here too but I didn't collect since we already did in locus 5. Have reached the packed, almost white clay here. Don't think there's much point in continuing here. Found a groundstone mortar among fallen rocks against the SW baulk. In locus 13 Adam and I defined the boundary between the clay of the floor and what seems to be a deep silt-filled pit (although it's not round and not really a pit since it's not surrounded by clay on all sides and seems to extend into the baulk.) A worker later accidentally troweled out part of the clay floor but we later reestablished the edge and proceeded down through the silt. Not much materials here but tons and tons of carbon. We collected three samples. The first two are at proximate elevations while the third is 15 cm deeper. Will proceed through the silt tomorrow. Hoping to reach a clay level. We also continued in locus 11 but after a while I decided there was no point in continuing. We've exposed enough to see that the architectural situation here is confusing. Require Armen's input. Otherwise, just more general cleaning in WSC2. In WSE Adam and I spent some time reading the section. Locus 3 is cultural fill but hard to distinguish from wash. Less airy and has white specks and occasional traces of clay. We also changed to a fourth locus but I'm not convinced there's a real change. We'll see later in section. Locus 4 has decent material quantities. We encountered some sort of installation in the east corner of this trench. Not clear what it is. Storage pit? Hearth? One carbon sample collected from within and generally few materials. I'll continue troweling through it tomorrow. Established a second datum in this trench today because of depth. 1.75 below first datum.
