Continuing to take down the baulk. Thought we had a wall in the first stratum, but there is only one line of stones. I have not taken them out yet, because they are so linear that it is hard to believe that it isn't something. Today took out most of the second stratum - just a tiny bit to go. We are continuing C5. The orange clay patches we saw yesterday are larger now but they still don't make a whole lot of sense. I couldn't find them in the section and the surface is so uneven that it was hard to trace. Did find some continuous patches, but there alre also some with distinct limits. Roughly sketched in the notebook and on a graph paper drawing. In the middle of a depression in the orange clay, found several very large sherds beneath blackened material and burned bone. Gave that a separate locus in case it was something - it is C6. Painted a datum on to one of the lower bedrock outcroppings today, but I don't have an elevation on it. Have been taking everything from the southwest corner to date, but we are too deep for that to work anymore.
