Narrative

This morning we finished cleaning off the grass and top soil from the Eastern quadrant of Gegharot Kurgan 1 locus 1. ATS and RB took photos. We then began working on the southern quadrant. There seems to be a curviliniar edge to the kurgan where we expected, about 6m from the center. However, we have not yet cleared off the the area where it should connect to the eastern quadrant and where there may be some clay covering or holding together the lower two courses (although there are not always 2 courses of large stones in the eastern quadrant). It is difficult to see if the clay stretches past the large stones since most off the ground/surface in the eastern quadrant is compact and hard, although sandy further away from the edge of the kurgan.
