Narrative

Today we continued clearing off locus 1 of the northern quadrant. The top soil was relatively deep. However, as we continued it became apparent that there weren't stones over a large part of the kurgan. There were a few above the base course, but otherwise they were only from the center to 2-2.5 meters north/out/down the kurgan. The matrix in this area was mostly dark brown loose (although wet), but in areas where we went lower there seems to be some yellow brown matrix with orange and cream clay inclusions. It is difficult to tell if this is clay similar to that around the base course as it has been very wet.
