Narrative

Today marked the continued cleaning of backfill and plastic from the LB shrine and th opening of locus E603, the southern half of the extant 2005 bulk which runs N/S down the center of our trench. Based on the 2005 excavations, it is expected that locus E603 will reveal additional in situ vessels sitting on the floor of our EB room. We are digging here with trowels only, proceeding in 5cm passes. A layer of cobbles was exposed directly under the surface of this locus, simliar to the rock carpet which sealed the entire southern half of T2E during the 2005 excavations. This boded well for the preservation of materials as two vessels were exposed in the northern half of locus E603 bt days end. Locus E604 was also opened today, a 2x2m cut on the northern side of EB wall locus E563. With the removal of some cobbles and 5cm of excavation this locus has quickly come down on orange soils, similar to those present among the EB loci in the southern half of the trench.
