6/23/06 Created several new loci today. I closed locus 8 in the northeast half of the trench when we came upon a lighter colored brown silt, similar to that of locus 6. This new locus, locus 12, covered roughly the same area as locus 8, namely the northeast half of room H. In the other half of the room, I closed locus 7 and started locus 13, which covers the entire rest of the room not including the area of locus 9. Locus 13 is still a dark brown silt, although slightly lighter than that of locus 7. There are several rocks in the center of locus 13. I have been gradually cleaning and removing them, but there is more than one layer of rocks, which makes me a little reluctant to remove. Proceeding with care, although I am almost certain these are wall fall. There is no apparent organization to the rocks whatsoever. I was expecting to come upon a floor today particularly in the area of locus 9, but the various silt deposits seem to continue, as do the walls. In general, material quanitites in locus 12 were lower than in locus 8, and lower in the north corner of locus 12 than in the east corner. In the area of locus 10 and 11, the westernmost corner of the operation, we came upon a white clay deposit that recalls the white clay of WSL. I think this area is a doorway of some sort, but the situation will not be clear until we excavate rooms G and I. A striated astragalus was found today in locus 12.
