Very cold morning as we continue to take out locci 503, 504 (opposite the southern shrine wall), and 502 (within the 2003 E200 series trench). In the northwestern corner of locus 502 a hearth or furnace installation has surfaced (or resurfaced?) in 3-sided quadrilateral form. Slag and plaster appear to also be present here. With the marked EB materials coming out of the southern portion of locus 503 we have started this new locus 504 to separate this area from the center and north of the trench. Unidentifiable, flaky objects (leather, bark?) appear to be percolating out of the first 10cm of locus 504. 6/22/05 probably bark.
