6.28.06 A great day for archaeology! It is possible that there is an later settlement in the structure because the wall is too high and seems unsupported in deeper levels. The soil matrix remains the same ashy and finer soil characteristic throughout the strucutre. Right now, we're continuing taking out Locus 2, focusing today on the N wall--trying to see what's wall and what's just dirt and rocks. We're reaching a new locus because charcoal bits are popping up and radiocarbon samples have been taken (4 total for the day). All elevations continue to be taken from Datum 1. The w wall is supported underneath by more stones, so we're cleaning it with trowels. Cylinder seal!! We found a cylinder seal in the wash against the N wall. There was also a c-14 sample taken nearby. In the same region is a small jar and ornate sherd which has been covered and will be removed at a later date. We stopped early for the rain.
