Narrative

Enormous weekend rains left a soupy/muddy situation in the E634 / 624 pit feature so we focused our efforts today in locus E636 between the 2005 shrine excavations and the new pit feature. In the southern portion of E636 we quickly reached cobbles and sandy orange deposits, partially visible already in the E634 pit wall. Most of these cobbles were floating and pulled. No new architecture was visible. Soon after, the western wing of E636 also reached the orange sand. EB ceramic frequencies spiked towards the termination of the locus. The orange sand at the bottom of E636 was accompanied by a lack of cultural material, but it is unclear if this is bedrock or additional architectural fill. Slight amounts of crumbly granite are also present at the eastern boundary of locus E636, maybe THIS is bedrock(?).
