Narrative

We began today with continued excavations in E640 and E624, our two LB pits. Shortly after the beginning of the day we exposed an additional EB andiron / hearth fragment in locus E624. It was located slightly to the south and slightly lower than the first fragment from Saturday which constituted an entire ram's head depiction. This fragment was more poorly preserved and may represent a portion of the andiron (or a different andiron) more towards to middle of the object. Ruben and I now agree that the LB pit penetrated the EB floor and caused particular objects from that floor (namely the andiron fragments) to fall into the pit. This may indicate that the pit was built for the express purpose of disposing of destruction fill or general garbage. Among numerous ground-stone tools and jar stoppers, our work in E640 today also produced a carnelian bead. By the end of the day we had completed the excavation of E640 and begun to focus of cutting back the southern trench wall for section drawing and restarting our excavation of the T2E northwest quadrant. Locus E624 continues to descend, containing several ground-stone tools and steady LB ceramics among the pit fill.
