7/19/06 Most of our efforts today were directed towards the floor in room G, locus 12. We re-exposed the storage vessels found yesterday and continued to trowel around them, exposing an area of the floor roughly 2 x 2 meters. For the first time in Project Aragats history, we discovered several fragments of a stone plate, a truly remarakable find. The entire profile is extant and all ten pieces of the vessel join, but about one half of it is missing. Not sure what kind of stone this is. Will need to ask Arkady when he visits. We also collected two C14 samples from the floor, the second from just beside the stone vessel. At the end of the day, after sweeping and photographing the floor, we removed all of the in situ broken vessels as well as the stone mortar that was situated among them, on the floor. Tomorrow we will continue troweling out the rest of the the floor beneath locus 12 and 13. In WSH, today I finally grided the interior of the room with 1 meter squares and took 46 pollen samples. See notebook for plan of grid. Finally, in WSI, we closed locus 5, 11, and 12 and began a locus 14, which covers roughly the northeast half of the trench. The matrix is still a brown wash, similar to that of locus 5. When workers were available, I continued to have them clean WSH 24, the area of the northeast wall, for Hasmik's arrival.
