07/25/06 I was very pleased to have Goderdze Narimanishvili visit the site today, and spent much of the morning showing him around Tsaghkahovit. I particularly valued his suggestions about the architecture in the west settlement. Goderdze thinks the area between room G and H might be serving as a kind of counterforce to the weight of the slope upon the back wall of the settlement. He also suggested that the width of these walls may have something to do with the system of roofing. Goderdze also drew my attention to two stones in the floor of room G that may have served as foundations for wood columns that would support a roof. Our group of workers was once again divided into 4 teams, with one team working on removing the topsoil in WSC3, another working on the trenchettes with Elizabeth, another group in WSI, working in locus 14 and locus 6, and another group in WSH, working on another extension of the trench yet again to the northwest, where I am hoping to define the doorway between rooms I and H. The topsoil of this extension is locus 34. By the afternoon I was down one worker since Arshaluys's leg problem from the football match worsened and he had to be taken to the hospital. He will probably need to miss about 5 days of work. It was a hot day today. Energy levels are flagging a bit. Perhaps time for ice-cream breaks?
