7/31/06 I spent nearly the entire day focusing on the doorway between room I and room H, covered by loci 35 and 36. It was slow going because of the high concentration of rocks in this area and my general concern that I was in fact pushing through a wall rather than a doorway. However, by the end of the day the doorway became quite clear, even if not quite as well made as some of the other passageways at the site. Several rocks were removed or broken in the process of defining this doorway. Tomorrow I will continue to clean in this area. In WSI, we finished with locus 15 and began locus 16, which is just adjacent to locus 14 and 15 but located in the southern quadrant of the trench. Screening the medium brown silt of this locus because I suspect we are quite close to a floor in this room. Finally, one worker was assigned the task of cleaning the tops of walls today, and considerable progress was made in WSG locus 16 and WSI locus 6. Adam suggests that I take down the silt matrix in the center of these walls as well, even if just for the sake of photography. I agree with him, and will get to this as soon as I free up labor in WSH. Created two new loci today in WSG to mark the two probable stone column bases embedded in the floor of this room.
