8.01.06 Once again, most of my energy today was directed toward WSH, where we finished cleaning the doorway and the top of the northwest wall. Also spent some time cleaning in the west corner, where I think we've defined the wall. I also was planning to draw the section in the floors of this room today, after straightening out the 'step' that cuts across the southeast of the trench. However, in the process of straightening out this area we came upon a whole, in situ vessel, upside down on the lower floor of locus 30. The vessel is a red-painted bowl, which I designated locus 37. It's contents are locus 38. A wash of the vessel was taken and the contents were saved for MB. Just beside this vessel to the southwest were sherds of what seems to be a rhyton-type vessel, perhaps with the folded legs of a horse. Also from this area, we found an unusual black burnished piece of ceramic which seems to be a leg of some sort, perhaps of a vessel. All in all, a very exciting day in room H. Meanwhile, progress was also made in room I. We continued to excavate and screen locus 16 and also finished in the area of locus 9, the doorway, where we found in a nook in the bottom course of the northwest wall a nearly complete pot. This pot was designated locus 18 and its contents became locus 17. MB and P samples taken. A C14 samples was also collected from the area of locus 9 today, closer to the southeast wall of this doorway.
