8/4/06 I spent nearly the entire day struggling over the section in the floor of WSH. There are many, many levels, some very thin, and many different matrices, making it a very difficult section to draw. I made it through about half of it and decided to continue tomorrow morning, when it's not so hot. Otherwise, in WSH we expanded locus 40 1m to the northwest, 1 meter to the southeast, and 1 meter to the southwest. In all areas we're bottoming out at the white and orange clay. I don't believe it will be necessary to excavate this, given the lesson learned last year in WSL. In WSI, we finished locus 16 and spent the afternoon cleaning the walls in the west corner and removing the many fallen rocks scattered across the interior of the trench. I think we're very close to a floor in this room, particularly in the south corner, where there's a silty clay matrix with specs of carbon. Will trowel across the room tomorrow and create new loci as appropriate. Will also take MB samples, in case this is, in fact, a floor surface. Finally, spent some time cleaning in WSI locus 3 today, the wall that separates room I from room H. Hope to close this locus tomorrow.
