8/7/06 A remarkable new discovery at Tsaghkahovit today -- our first ever cremation burial. The pot was found in WSG, while excavating under the floor, i.e. locus 18. It was found near the northeast wall, in an otherwise sterile locus. I'm quite sure the pot is not resting on a lower floor, but rather was buried under the locus 17 floor. There is no change in matrix below this floor and no materials other than this pot. In the bottom third of the pot was a thick and greasy ash. Will need to look into possible forms of analysis that can confirm that this is a burial. Some specs of burnt bone found in the matrix. Today we also continued to excavate locus 19 in WSI, and although there is no sign of the floor in this locus yet, I suspect it is close. Distinguished visitors came to the site today, including Grisha Areshian, Simon Hmayakyan and Hagop Simonian.
