8/26/06 Began the day by taking photos of what I believe is the floor, locus 12, in WSC3. The entire trench was marked by a homogenous rocky, packed clay matrix. Later, this locus 12 designated only a probe in the north quadrant of the trench since there isn't enough time to excavate the entire floor. However, I created another locus, locus 13, to designated another probe, locus 13, along the southwest wall, and confirmed that we are now below the last course of the wall. This trench reminds me of WSC, where we also had dificulty identifying a floor, but encountered a similar deep deposit of packed clay under the final course of the wall. Also, today I created architecture loci for room WSI. Most exciting developments were in WSG today, where in the course of completing the excavations of locus 18, in addition to three piece of worked bone, I encountered two metal objects, one an axe head found in the nasilka and another an elongated iron objects, curved at one end, found in situ in the floor surface of locus 18. Photos taken but forgot to point provenience because at the end of the day I was distracted by the visit of Felix Martirosov, Remi Boucharlat, and the group of French archaeologists working at Beniamin. Spent several hours showing these visitors the entire site and looking at pottery together. It was a productive visit.
