Today we re-opnened operation AB1 at Aragatsi-berd, beginning the removal of backdirt and cleaning the stone architecture exposed in 2006. Without a nasilka, wheelbarrow, or buckets the work was slow, but steady. The workers backfilled the trench excellently and there is little evident errosion at the trench or on the (2nd) north terrace more generally. This means, however, that there is an enormous amount of backdirt to remove from the trench before we expose the plastic covering the 2006 unexcavated portion. Tomorrow I will re-measure the wall, as I don't have the 2006 field book with me, and we will continue clearing the backfill and we will begin searching for mapping and measuring datums. 6-26-08
