06.26.2008After a tour of Gegharot and setting up trenches there, we went to Tsaghkahovit and hired workers. I have 5 workers: Vachik Oganesyan, Harout Gevorkyan, Vahe Mikalyan, Arkadi Pandoukyan, and Sahak Tonoyan. I then toured the burials from 2006. Large rocks have sunk into most of the excavated chambers. I then toured the burials around the 1998 excavation (Group 2), assigning numbers. ATS and I walked around the 3rd group and again I made a rough map and assigned numbers. (Several burials appear to have been looted. They will be noted when I map the cemetery, photographes, and described.) There were about 45 in this 3rd group and 11 in the 2nd group. I then placed the numbers 1-11 in a hat and had VO select one--number 1. I then returned 1 to the hat and had another worker VM slect another--8. Both od these cromlechs are suitable for excavation as they are easy for a truck to acess in order to pull out capstones and do not appear to be looted. We then laid out a 7m x 6m unit around number 1, hereafter ArTs/BC12.B6, took Locus 1 photos and outlined the trench by removit 10-15cm of topsoil. The cromlech is smaller than the 4 I have previously excavated--about 5m, but has 2 very large capstones. It is just up the slope from the 1998 excavation. Infact, the two outer cromlech rigngs are close to eacher--about 50cm.
