Narrative

I did some sediments paleocarpological and paleopalynological sampling in Gegharot peatbog. The following sediments were visible in 130 cm depth section immediately in the stream flowing part close to the village: Humus soil and sand mixture – 0-27 cmMud and sand mixture – 27-40 cmYellowish sand – 40-48 cmPeat – 48-65 cm (sampling: 2 depths for both – 48-53 cm [4b] and 53-65 cm [4a])Sand and mud mixture – 65-85 cmMud, sand and peat mixture – 85-110 cm (sampling: 1 depth for paleocarpological sample and 3 depths – 3 samples for paleopalynological samples – 85-90 cm [2c], 90-100 cm [2b], 100-110 cm [2a])Bluish sand – 110-130 cmTotally I took 5 paleopalynological samples and 3 paleocarpological samples. The traces of water processing are clearly visible in section. Also there metallic ropes are visible in up to half meter depth; those were used by villagers for peat slices detection. Basely almost all reserves of peat are used. After lunch I took soil samples (2 bags) from Gegharot, T21, L6; also participate in excavations, soil sieving and collect charcoal from the same place for future possible antracological studies.
