FOURTH WALL!!! Hooray! So, now the trench definitely has a full-on room, but we don’t yet have an entrance, exactly, and we also do not have an answer to what on earth either the clay platform/tube thing is nor what the section of cobbly rocks sort of near the south part of the room is. I made a new locus today, 10, to encompass the interior part of the room that is still in the extension and so considerably higher than the rest of the room. Locus 7 has been extended from its original position N of the N wall of the room (and up to the N baulk) to include the area in the extension that is outside the room. In locus 7, near the new N corner of the trench, we found an absurd amount of charcoal, enough that it is an obvious lens in the baulk. We sampled it and are currently digging locus 7 down to its level outside the room. There is also an amazing quantity of vertebrae (at least, that’s what I think they are, having never taken zooarch nor bioarch)—maybe 2 bags’ worth? From Locus 7. Today was absolutely insanely cold and windy, and so we did a lot of troweling in ordering to crouch down and try to stay out of the wind. Despite this, however, we managed to take down the entire extension at least 15 cm and to articulate the W wall. Is it possible that the W wall is double-faced? It’s unclear as of yet, but that might explain the very black earth that we found between the two lines of rocks (the westernmost of which I am counting as the outside wall).
