Today was a big day in T22. We dug down Locus 7, north and W of the walls of the room, only to discover first of all that the N wall actually continues into the W baulk, apparently creating a rather large room to the N of the one that is centered in the trench. I say apparently because we have found clay prep surfaces (and presumably floor associated with them) and also a gorgeous small ceramic pot on top of the surface. It is round, with incised latitudinal lines and also incised triangular designs above the latitudinal lines. The entire vessel is not here, but 10 pcs of it are (Ar/Ge.T22.11). In addition, this adorable little pot has a lid, with a handle on the top, and two "arms" that go radially outward from the lid to enclose two holes, presumably for securing the lid onto the pot. One of the rim sherds also has a corresponding hole, lending credence to this theory.Just above this small pot, but not on a surface, we found a pithos with a similar triangular design on its shoulder, above a latitudinal line. This pithos was gathered into Bag 2 of the ceramics for Locus 7. Additionally, we removed the super-friable clay business (S of the clay tube) after I drew it (on drawing 6 in my field notebook). Also removed the cobbles associated (or just plain near) it. We also dug down to the W of the room in the center of the trench, figuring out which rocks to keep and which to remove, though this is not yet finished. But hopefully we will soon have the extension dug down to the level of Locus 8, the currently-exposed surface of the room.
