Narrative

Today we had visitors to the trench, and I had hoped to have a beautifully clean trench for them to admire, but the wind rather messed up that plan. We had cleaned on Friday, but I honestly think that on that side of the hill, cleaning thoroughly may only make sense before photos (or perhaps on days when there is no wind, but 1. those don't exist and 2. the wind will only return the following day...!). At any rate, today we got some good work done in the room despite the vicious wind, which keeps destroying my contacts. We have dug down the side to the E of the clay basin (basin = locus 9) and re-exposed the basin itself, though sadly one of the rocks in the arm give in to the power of gravity. The soil to the E of the basin is clayey but rather uniformly colored a rich brown--it's clearly cultural fill, but not a surface yet.
