07.16.08Again the team was split between B06 and B08.At B06 we only made it about 50cm down. The matrix was extremely difficult to work through with a very high wet clay content and gravel and cobbles. Hello blisters. The bone was indeed animal--possibly a scapula(?). However, we did come down on a different matrix with a higher sand content--but still mostly clay that is easier to excavate. This matrix is distinguished from locus 5 in that it has fewer gravel and cobble inclusions, still has a high clay content but also sand. It is a lighter color and much easier to excavate although still wet. There is another bone--so far unclaer whether human or animal but long bone. There are a few small roots and 1 rodent bone so far. We did a little cleaning and stopped at 3:30pm. It looked like it would rain again when we left but we should be able to double our efforts tomorrow and find the base of all the rocks... and hopefully a floor with bones... At B08 things are going slowly. I think the team has forgotten how to clean rocks (except Vatchik) without me present. When I came over at 3:30 I got them working effectively again but I needed to direct everyone's action. Unfortunately the good trowlers at the chamber with me are also the most self directed workers. I'll have to check in more tomorrow. 3 times was not enough.
