2008-07-23. Wedsneday. today RB and ATS worked intermittently in the operation, and a lot was accomplished. in the AM ATS pointed out the emergence of a pit feature in the receding face of locus 107: this pit was named locus 113, and significant finds include a ceramic 'wheel model' and some bones and sherds. the feature itself is a lighter red-to- yellowish soil laying on top of a thin black-greeny layer-- this will be measured tomorrow, but the feature extends from the end of 106 in the north baulk around the corner to the north end of the LB walls (locus 104). it peters out near the wall-- also remarked was the continuation of a similar dark line of soil under part of the LB wall courses lying above locus 107: it is possible that either this soil was conserved by the combination of plastic and flat granite boulders in 2006-- it is also possible that the dark soil was in part created by that conservation work? locus 108 (where it remains on the south side of the EB wall) was taken down, and the EB walls destructed west end defined. a trowel pass was started on the north end of 112-- this locus will be taken down to the level of 109 starting tomorrow. tomorrow we will not work in 107/114, unless roman comes to take samples.
