Narrative

2008.07.25. Friday. tpday we finished up, more or less, in the primary trench of T19. RB supervised further cleaning for a final photo in the areaa of the to-be-combined loci 112/108/109. for the purposes of the photo, these leveled loci were combined into a single locus 115. work here produced some sherds and another fragment of the andiron from locus 112, but not much else. Locus 108, which remained on the south side of the EB wall,w as also taken down tot he same locus (i maintain that locus 108 os tjhe locus which CONTAINS the EB hearth locus 112, and as such is wider across its generalized top and then narrowed to only the nondifferentiated fill which lay on the south side of the wall. materials from on top of the wall and within its western collapse are labeled as being from 108 or 109 depending on which sector of the trench they come from. given the compressed and compromised nature of this upepr EB context, I think retaining the general geographical control will be practicable). the removal of the remainder of locus 108 left the southern EB wall pedestaled-- though with several courses deep on its northern face. on the north side of locus 115, the rounded/ ovoid stone feature has been pedestaled and generally cleaned for the photo and for drawing-- these were done/ started in the PM today. In the morning i troweled off the top of locus 104, between the curved LB courses near mid- trench. I dug down an arbitrary 5- 10 cm, enough to confirm that the fill beneath the wall courses at this point greatly resembles the cultural fill of locus 107. also in the morning, i troweled off the tip of locus 114/113 (114 is now gone) and i showed the mottled, splotchy results to ATS, who continued cleaning. ATS mused that locus 113 might be a construction pit or might not be a pit at all-- either way we are going to wait until the area adjacent to T19 (a 3x 5 extension which started today with topsoil locus 116) has been opened, to view the larger locus from the top, and to take soil samples. this is, of course, dependent on the rate of excavation of the T19 northern exposure.
