Today we worked in both T20 and T22, with an extra worker (Avo) from Armine's trench, as she was in Yerevan. We dug to the east of the central room in T22, to capture the other side of that eastern wall, although this was slow going, because there were so many rocks that using the shovels was impossible after about 10 cm. But it's progressing at least. In T20, things were more interesting. We have begun to find exclusively EB sherds in Locus 103, to the east of the "pithos wall," including an interesting scatter that includes pieces of a highly burnished vessel with an embossed swirl design, though I don't understand the depositional process that laid it down. The pieces seem to be about at the same elevation and from the same event, yet they are only pieces, and there are pieces of a variety of vessels (I think). So at any rate, we took photos and recovered the vessel pieces that we left in situ after cleaning. I also made a new locus, 104, to capture the different soil that lies to the south of a wall that seems to run E-W into the pithos wall. We are trying to understand the relationship of that wall and the wall that runs north south through most of the trench and which is already visible from prior excavation.
