Spent the morning laying out a 1 ha grid in the area south of Benchmark B that I'm referring to as the South Settlement. I was assisted by a worker named Arabo in laying out the stakes 20m apart, again using the stakeout feature of the total station. Took about 2 hours to lay out the grid in the morning, and after lunch we surveyed two 20x20m data blocks (4A and 5A). Cycling time on the magnetometer is set to 0.5 sec and we're doing 0.5m transects to get better resolution data. I'm doing the survey on an X-Y coordinate system with 0,0 in the SE corner of the grid, with my transect lines running roughly E-W along the Y axis. Somewhat counterintuitive to have the X axis running NS and the Y axis running EW, but it was easiest to generate the baseline running NS and I've gotten used to using the baseline as the X axis.
