This is the floor of the room. I was not able to capture it across the entire extent of the room -- in the south quadrant it was not preserved. The matrix is a dark black earth with lenses of clay and areas of burnt earth. The floor itself is about 3-4 cm thick in section (judging by the section that was visible in several places), but the bottom elevation indicated above makes it appear thicker because with shovels it was impossible to capture only the thickness of the floor. I first identified the floor level in the probe in the east quadrant of the trench, and at that point I assigned it the locus number, 20. I then troweled beneath locus 21 to the south to identify the continuation of the floor surface in that direction. Beneath the floor is a sterile orange clay deposit interspersed with a decomposing black rock. Two samples were taken for macrobotanical analysis and two charcoal samples were collected as well.
