This locus designates the dark brown wash deposit immediately below topsoil. It covers the center of the trench, just to the northeast of locus 07, and is a long locus extending to the northwest wall. The matrix of this locus is the typical dark brown silt encountered elsewhere in the trench, although in this area (the center of the room) the wash deposit is particularly deep. The locus is located adjacent to what was previously locus 11, toward the north quadrant of the trench. Its 2 meter width is arbitrary--I wanted to leave a profile for section drawing (see plan). The locus is extremely rocky. After drawing and photographing, this fallen wall stones were removed.
