Immediately below locus 1. The soil in this stratum is of the orange-brown color immediately above bedrock, and has a dry, clay-like consistency. It would be more difficult to shovel or trowel through if it was thicker.
This very thin layer also contains small bits of weathered bedrock.
Locus 2 includes the 4 m extension of the northeast-baulk downslope. The purpose of the extension was primarily to investigate a second large bar indicated on the magnetometry figure, as well as to better visualize the soil profile.
Virtually no finds. So far, the soil profile indicates no step-like formations.
