Place: Ar/Ge.T38.29

Locus 29 is an almost 4m long context situated in the northern quadrant of T38. This large context undergirded a number of different distinct contexts directly above. It is located west and south of locus 22. It was under loci 16, 18, 20, 21, 23. The context is characterized by a compact and fine-grained, semi-compact brownish gray sediment. It is well-sorted and contains very few stone inclusions. While it has a granular appearance it is in fact very clay-like. Initially, we had a somewhat high concentration of cultural materials (namely ceramic); however, upon excavating the locus is characterized by radical sterility. It is important to note for purpose of bags and analysis that this locus consists of loci 25, 29, and 30. After extensive cleaning, I decided to collapse the aforementioned contexts because it became clear that any pre-conceived spatial distinctions were the product of stone collapse rather than any "real" spatial and compositional differences. It is worth noting that locus 22 is situated within this context. Moreover, it is also important to note that this area is enclosed within walls 9, 26, 31, and 36.
