Core is in fact mottled, rather bizarre, with brown coloring invading the black near the interior and exterior surfaces. With the outer band as the lightest band, this vessel may have been fired upside down. The band 2 color should actually be 10R 4/4 weak red. While the primary inclusions are likely silt and were therefore rather invisible, there were some very coarse sand grains visible in the break. While portions of the exterior base are indeed Reddish brown, there is a lot of inconsistent very dark gray coloring as well. Is this a cooking pot with a rather roasted base? The base is covered with typical LB nail incisions, and a there are annular lines in the base likely produced by turning while forming. The lines seem to also continue towards the body. There is almost no corrosion on this sherd. On the interior surface the join between base and body may be visible in the clay--a good candidate for DR.
