External color should be 7.5 YR 6/2 Pinkish Gray. The internal surface is not truly coarse, as it consists of a clay layer of variable thickness which appears to have been purposefully coarsened in order to give it texture. The coarse appearance is rendered with a lineary tool or basket impressions and contains grit inclusions not present in the general core fabric. This is a long-used application in maslo-boika vessels and perhaps other vessels. The application makes the internal surface sometimes visible as a core layer and sometimes not. The external surface is in fact mottled pinkish gray and dark gray. Coarse sand particles are also present in the core fabric. Breaks are rough, no mica pops, but some coarse and very coarse sand is visible poking through the external surface.
