Place: Ar/Ge.T22.39

This is the LB pit dug into the central room of T22. It lies in (but below) the northwest corner of the room, and its edges are coincident with most of locus 9, the clay feature that we found in the center of the room. It appears now as though the clay feature was in fact what was left of the floor after it had been dug into to create the pit, especially since this would explain the strange downward curvature of the surface below the north wall of the room. The matrix in this locus was extremely soft and ashy, with some very small bits of charcoal. (But in comparison with the copious amounts of charcoal in the rest of the room, these amounts were quite minimal.) A great deal of bone came out of this pit (14 bags), and a number of bone and lithic tools, but not a huge amount of ceramics or obsidian relative to the amount of bone. We dug it down to its bedrock lining.
