A "horn" fragment from an EB zoomorphic (ram) andiron. There are two rather large spalls off the superior side, showing how the slip or "first layer" is a thick slab of clay rolled around an internal core. The rounded surface of the horn is mottled red 10R 4/6 and Black GY1 2.5/N. The exposed fabric is a Very Dark Gray GY1 3/N shade with medium sand, coarse sand, very coarse sand, and grit particle inclusions. The fragment is shiny, perhaps polished, perhaps burned. Breaks are rough. There is 40% light yellowish brown corrosion on the inferior break. 2008-12-04
