Remarks

This feature constitutes a collection of relatively large stones, as well as some smaller ones, resting either on top of the paved stone floor or on other stones, in the area in front of the doorway in operation WSAC. These stones appear to be arranged artificially, although they have likely moved considerably from their original position judging from the slope of the room. The stones were revealed during the excavation of both Locus 22 and Locus 28, the clay matrices above the stone floor; they are about 30 cm above the level of the floor. Some appear to be arranged in a linear fashion while others don't, and might be extraneous rock fall. One particular composition might be circular, indicating a kromlech or burial; it is also possible that the stones continue the linear feature against the SE wall of the room, Feature 26. The stones were first opened and explored 8/6/10 after photographs and sketch; see notebook. Elevation given is for one of central stones of arrangement. The locus between these stones is slightly more yellow than the matrix above and between the stones of the floor, and is also more aerated, although as of 8/6/10 it had produced little ceramic or faunal material; one groundstone.

30/6/11 KK- The radiocarbon piece taken from this rock jumble came back as Late Bronze Age, so I designated the rock pile as stratum 2.
