Iron 3a: Achaemenid
Remarks

This feature, between the paved stone floor and the SE baulk of WSAD, started as a circular deposit of very black, charcoal-infused clay at the level of the clay floor in this room (see photos). The charcoal matrix, however, was sterile and quickly became a gritty, yellowish sand matrix similar to the bedrock seen in WSAC. It was mixed however with a more wet, yellow/pink matrix, suggesting the floor prep. Its possible this was a pit, or hearth area associated with either the Iron III floor (Locus 29) or the paved stones along the SE baulk, Locus 35.
